“A professional fun-haver…”
A good DJ is someone that just spins good tunes … a GREAT DJ is someone who entertains and connects to the audience. Part coordinator, part musician, part comedian, -- but full entertainer. This is what I’ve been for a very long time, an entertainer. A DJ needs to set the mood and create an atmosphere -- Uplighting, DJ lighting, sound equipment -- these are all important pieces of what I offer, but the most important thing I’m giving is my personality.
I’ve had so many different experiences that shaped my DJ style, but maybe none more influential than being a teacher. Classroom management is something that carries over to the DJ game. You have to know how to keep a room engaged and make people care. You have to command a room, but in an approachable way. This is just one of the things that separate me from my competitors.
Actually, I believe I have a lot of things that separate me from the pack, but none more so than my ability to connect with people. DJing is almost like being a puppeteer. You have to get people to do what you want them to do, and the best way to do that is to connect to the room. Build relationships. For me, this starts with my meetings with the Bride and Groom. I want to get to know you. If I can understand you and what you want your wedding to feel like, then I’m absolutely going to be able to deliver. Weddings are about people, and my job is to make sure those people have a good time.
When booking a wedding or event, some people want complete control, and some want me to take over. Having lots of experience, I am more than happy to take any stress off the wedding couple or event coordinator by running the show. However, I leave an open line of communication with all of my customers, giving the opportunity for as much collaboration as they’d like. I’m not a DJ who “always knows best” (unless you want me to know best haha). I’m not a DJ that doesn’t take requests (unless you don’t want me to). I’m not a DJ that won’t respond to your calls and emails until the last minute. I’m not a DJ that’s hard to get a hold of. What I AM is a DJ who cares, LOTS… Let me show you…
